The Peguche waterfall is found in the Faccha Llacta community, 1.5 km from the community of Peguche and 3.3 km from the city of Otavalo. It is located at an altitude of 1821 m.a.s.l. and has an average temperature of 12°C.
This waterfall is 30 meters high and 6 meters wide and forms strong inclines. In its surroundings exist bushlike vegetation, stands of elder, cholán and mainly blackberry. With an eternally friendly and well defined path, this place calls us to spend moments of relaxation in the company of friends and family. We can, as well, find a second 6m waterfall above the first. It is easy to reach by way of one of the available paths.
Also, you can visit small adequate pools below, next to the river.
The forest that surrounds the waterfall has marked sites where you can camp and have picnics.
In the festival of Inti Raymi, the Peguche waterfall is the center ceremonial area for the purification ritual. Here, dancers of various communities bathe in the waters at 8 in the evening before beginning to dance.
How to get there
Estimated time of arrival: 40 minutes.
From the city of Otavalo, you can arrive by train and continue north until you arrive at the Peguche community and later you can take a detour to the right where you find the UPC, Community Police Unit of the area and you will be directed to the Faccha Llacta community.
At the entrance of the waterfall we ask that you register and contribute economically to help preserve the area.
In your own vehicle
Estimated time of arrival: 10 minutes.
From the city of Otavalo, you should take Luis de la Torre street, next to the train line and continue north. Take the detour on the right where you will find the UPC, Community Police Unit and continue to the community of Faccha Llacta.

In front of the ground terminal of Otavalo, every 30 minutes, you can take the Imbaburapac cooperative (red bus) that will take you to the Peguche waterfall. Trip cost: 35 cents.
