The animal market is located outside of Otavalo, in the area of the Quinchuquí.  For many years this market has been held on Saturdays from 6 in the morning until 12 noon.  The temperature setting is 14°C and is found at a height of 2560 m.a.s.l.

This has been a destination for different types of exhibitions of animal species.

The principal commercial products are mostly large animals such as bovine livestock, horse livestock, hog livestock, also we have small animals like dogs, cats, hens, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.

The indigenous of Otavalo are the majority of participants in this market, also mestizos, especially women that are looking for certain animals as ingredients to prepare in their homes.

You can walk from wherever you are in the city and in a few minutes arrive at the market.  Another method would be to catch a taxi to take you to the site. Trip cost $3.00

    If you travel in your own vehicle, we advise you to leave your auto in a guarded parking lot in the city because near the fair there are no parking spaces.

    If you have children, always keep them at your side and don´t lose sight of them among the crowds.
